I would say potatoes, but there's no pun there.

Impressions:

After the last few plot 'driven' episodes today, it's weird that this one feels at least slightly paced. It's not really, and most of the things it introduces don't make a lot of sense. There's an illuminati manipulating the peasants into worshipping this sports festival. There's a time traveling ghost that keeps haunting the main character through her life, begging her to be the grand idol or whatever, occasionally while she's asleep. Sports broadcasts are happy to watch people fall to grievous injuries and ignore it. The way to make friends with bullies is to utterly humiliate them. And if you're not arm wrestling with the right hand, it's not real arm wrestling. Of all the weird things this throws out, the last one may be the weirdest. It's an actual plot point too. Spunky Spice is a cyborg with a mecha arm and leg, therefore if she arm westled a bully, the bully wouldn't abide by the rules because that's cheating. Uh, right. Whatever you say.

I'm not all that familiar with the original Battle Athletes, so I can't say whether or not this is anything like it, but on its own merits, it's coming off as a pretty mediocre and standard sports club thing with maybe slightly more gimmicks than usual. The humor only rises to the level of "I grew up on a farm, so I'm super strong," and Not-Akari making silly faces and shrieking while bumbling around. The character side is corny to a sappy degree, if you're just looking for an inoffensive "yay friendship" bit of fluff, but the story is mostly nonexistent, but the greater plot teases like the illuminati and space ghost are essentially nonsense.
