Warlords of Sigrdrifa #01 — Please Don’t Murder the Wildlife

October 3rd, 2020

Seriously, what have these megafauna ever done to anybody?

Impressions:

Say what you want about Azur Lane, and you should because it was a terrible show, but at least when it was time for the action, it was over the top, highly animated, and not all just shooting floaty nonspecific wildlife. Are these jellyfish even really threatening anybody? There's certainly not any kind of apocalypse going on in this world. Everyone's going about their daily lives with nary a care in the world. But also, we're sending off child soldiers to kill fauna in weapons of mass destruction at the behest of a hairy lunatic with delusions of godhood. But we painted the airplanes pink. How adorable!

If you've seen one ship/plane/tank girls show, you've certainly seen this one. This is extremely well-trodden ground at this point, and this is very content to just be Another One®. The most obnoxious part of this was the double-length first episode. They didn't cover twice as much ground, every scene in the standard first episode for this kind of show just took twice as long. From the intro against random mobs, to the angsty lead angsting over whether she really deserved being the lead, to the goofy faces during the portion where they all faff about like six year olds on recess. You can do better than this, Japan. You can be better than this. I say this as someone who gave two years of my life to translate a game about girls piloting space ships with guns powered by whether or not you told them you liked eating cake that day.

3 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • The Phantom says:

I found it absolutely ridiculous they were attacking with f22 and nuclear warheads and could not make a dent to the enemy so they switched to little girls piloting fumigation planes with machine guns and boom now they are sweeping everything, the suspension of disbelief does not make up for this BS.

If you trow away the Introduction of the Girl and begin to watch when she appear then you can enjoy this here

*looks at the title* yeah that is what I wondered the second they said EU was not empty and everyone was running to asia. My only guess is that guardian snake type monsters killed people around the tower.

maybe if there was a twist about how odin is loki and the pillars are actually humanity from the future (like interstellar) there might be something there but nope.

This seems like the type of stuff someone mocking a chuni would come up with like a “plane with wings” and WW2 model does more damage than a fighter jet because goes blessing and its not a modern jet because that has low mechanizing value.

only thing miss was a Japanese boy who will comfort the anxiety blond about her dead teammates, ending with her ridding him and this could be even crappier muv luv total eclipse. of course now that they are in japan the extras will stop dropping like flies. admittedly I can never get far in ship/plane/tank girls show so I might be using the wrong formula.
