Princess Connect #13 — Drop It Like It’s Hot

June 29th, 2020

Not good advice when you're talking about every goddamned plot thread in a show, anime.

Impressions:

What the hell was this episode? I know I've said that about a lot of this show's episodes, but this one is especially egregious for being the last one and didn't even make an attempt to do… well, anything whatsoever. You know the big bad? She usurped Pecorine's home, and anyway, they all go home back to the previous status quo. The end. The first half of the episode is a straight up infodump, and then instead of hustling to some kind of hasty conclusion, they proceed to just straight up dropping it after smacking a quite literally random monster upside the head. I couldn't even tell you what was going on off in the city with that other antagonistic woman who showed up one time before.

The whole thing is just a mess. As usual, pretense of being a comedy has completely evaporated, and it lacks both the ambition and the talent to be driven by any kind of dramatic angle either. All it was able to do is cry out "bad things happen, but friendship!" whether it was that one sleeping mage, or the main characters. They don't even address or solve the bad things, for Hades's sake! Karyl's entire schtick is never engaged with, let alone resolved. Yuuki's remains ignored. They tried to set up the main antagonist 10 minutes from the end of the last episode, and then just futzed off home because it didn't actually matter and nobody really cared all that much anyway. Stick to the goddamned derpwolves.

Summer preview will be up either tomorrow or Wednesday. There are literally only sixteen shows, and six of those are sequels. It's going to be a rough one.
