Make Me Average #01 — Impromptu Powerpoint Presentation

October 8th, 2019

Powerpoint is the pinnacle of humor.

Impressions:

Oh boy. Our second too-clever-for-itself reincarnation into a parallel world with godly powers show where the comedy is primarily the female lead making a silly face while announcing all the cliches it's engaging in. This distinguishes itself from the other in a couple ways. Mainly, the only male protagonist is a cat. Secondarily, instead of being 75% silly faces and 25% cliche recitation, it's more like 30% silly faces and 90% cliche recitation. That's not a good trade, and yes, it adds up to over 100% because I couldn't think of a way to get across how goddamned much of the script is just explaining the cliches it shamelessly indulges in. If your primary joke is that calling attention to how terrible your own writing is, that does not fix the problem.

And then there's the exposition cat. It exists solely to provide exposition. At first, it pops into existence and has an expository conversation. Later, it pops into existence to press pause on events in progress to explain the premise of the show directly to the audience with helpful Powerpoint slides. I think that it stopped things to have a Powerpoint presentation was supposed to be the joke. Someone is going to have to explain how that's a joke. I feel like it peaked with the montage of her roaming the city early, screwing with random people, but that could just be that it wasn't at that point trying to ingratiate itself by repeatedly telling me how bad the writing is. Maybe it's supposed to be a pity thing.
