Astra – Lost in Space #01 — No Intelligent Life
July 3rd, 2019
Especially not the pink one.
I was up early, so could get to this before work. The rest will have to wait, although given the holiday, it may very well be an early day for me.
Impressions:
I didn't make it to the end of this episode. In my defense, it is a fifty minute ordeal, and having sorted the screencaps during the overlong introduction, I knew precisely the point where what little content was in the episode had concluded and the rest was going to be nothing but talking heads and pointing at line-graphs, and that was thirty minutes in. Nor does it help that it starts out by teasing the 'crisis' of the episode, then spends the next twenty minutes on a meet and greet. I'm sure it probably thinks that it's organically introducing the characters by having them stand around in a circle for about ten straight minutes, announce some factoids about themselves, and explain the setting's supposed common sense to each other. It's wrong, but it certainly believes that.
What also doesn't help is the animation, or more precisely, the lack of it. Even when things are ostensibly happening, it finds ways to drag them to a crawl with stills and unneeded explanation. Yeah, the shoes glowed and he just leaped ten feet into the air. Did we really also need a cut-in and to be told that they're Space Jordans too? I also spent a rather long time trying to figure out why only the space scenes weren't in faux panoramic. And where do these dumbass flashbacks keep coming from? Oh no, danger. Anyway, this reminds me of another time when someone I knew needed help. You could spend some effort building up the tension in the current predicament instead perhaps, but nah.

This dumb pink girl was really hard to swallow, 5 seconds in I already hated her voice, went downhill from there, wanted nothing to do with this show after few mins.
Why they show such a long boring first episode, were they expecting this to be awesome or something?
