All of these people are too stupid to live.

TWANG's first episode was originally scheduled for today, but it's been pushed back a week due to hurricane. Not entirely sure how the two are connected, but that's what they're saying.

Impressions:

I guess this was a better episode than the first. It was certainly a more first episode than the first. It doesn't help at all that Jeanne is a rank imbecile though, and the fairies existed solely to be 'cute' imbeciles to be squashed for the shock. Except they were helium-filled squeaking irritation machines, so it was more of a relief when they were no longer around. It was also made for a bit of a weird juxtaposition over Jeanne being the 'devil' for… scowling a little crazily. Your village was just half slaughtered and there are bloody dead fairies all over the place, but you run up and see someone looking angry and that's what gets you? It seems so easy and obvious to have her covered in blood and/or torturing someone in revenge as the trigger instead of quite literally goddamned nothing.

Anyway, I guess the main thing is that this was a much more purpose driven episode. Got the stone, leaking magic spit, find and excuse to jam the two together in an imbecile to make a magic girlfriend. Not going to win any awards for creativity, or especially in the department of naturally weaving expository dialogue about the nature of the magicalness of said girlfriend into conversation, but the writing is pretty horrid all around. My favorite line, that actually made me laugh? Jeanne on the ground, giant knife sticking out of her back, bleeding out. The first thing said to her "Are you okay!?" Brilliant. Not even sure why we need to run down the list of specific powers and limits anyway rather than just saying "temporary" and "enhances aggression, strength, and emotion. Oh, and if it could find time in its busy day to give Jeanne a personality besides "wants peace" and "wants a bigger cup size", those two things being of equal concern to her, that would also probably be nice.
