GARO – Vanishing Line #19 — Kick the Baby

Wasn't that an enemy in Persona?

Impressions:

The big bugaboo with this series that has been lurking in the shadows is coming home to rest as it sort of crawls towards its end. And we're seemingly going from a series of aborted midboss fights here into one of those godawful "For The Man Who Has Everything" episodes. Granted, I can't actually think of too many of those in Japanese media, but they're a very tired cliche of Western media that is rarely pulled off decently. Hell, I think if your show has Berlanti listed anywhere in the credits, you're required to do at least one a season. Maybe it'll surprise me, but I doubt it.

Anyway, back to my original point, and this actual episode, I can easily see decent episodes out of Luke vs Daddy, Gina vs Poison Ivy, and even possibly Sophie vs Business Dude, but the last boss for the hero of the show is still trying to get by entirely on how obfuscated it is (not very), like that somehow increases the threat factor. Particularly stupid obfuscation, as another large chunk of this episode was devoted to expository reveals that contain no actual revelations.  The random demon of the week actually being a giant headed fetus piloting a robot suit was probably the biggest reveal of the episode. It would be a bigger surprise at this point if Sophie's brother was in the jar and the last boss was Sword's sister. Even that wouldn't be much of a shock though.
