Card Captor Sakura #01 — PINKER! PIIINNNNKKKKEEERRRR!

January 6th, 2018

I STILL CAN'T TASTE PINK ON THE BACK OF MY EYELIDS YET!

Impressions:

I kind of felt like copy/pasting what I wrote for Sailor Moon Crystal and seeing if anybody noticed, but considering that this had a budget, that would probably be dishonest of me. On the other hand, I think at least 85% of the budget went to bloom and cherry petals. Christ. It's amazing anybody can even walk when you can't step outside without being buried under a deluge of plant or cooked under the white hot sun that fills the entire sky. Other shows have a high bar to clear to max out the pink-o-meter this season. And yet, I wouldn't be shocked if some came close.

And if this seems light on content, then you're right! Most of the episode is spent reassuring the audience that nothing at all is changing. Not in a subtle way either. They literally go through every single cast member, one by one, and explain how stuff may have superficially changed, but it hasn't actually changed at all. If you were hoping for any kind of fun magical girl action in the way that even shows like PreCure have evolved in over the last ten thousand decades since the previous series, then tough beans, because we already say most of the 'action' in the three second clip in the promos. Meaning the entire episode was spent explicitly telling the audience that nostalgia was in full swing, with the exciting teaser that the title of the season was going to be the plot for the season. Twenty minutes clearly well spent.

this was decent episode basicly only re interdouce to the old cast

  • algorithm says:

Reminder that in the sakuraverse (or is it the clampverse?), everyone is bisexual.

  • The Phantom says:

Were not these guys supposed to have grown up by now, then how comes they look younger.

    • elior1 says:

she is in middle school now and in the original she was in elementary so sakura didn’t grow up much

  • Anonymous says:

Well, I can say two things for sure. First one is that is without the slightest glimmer of doubt the Cardcaptor Sakura I remembered and loved point by point. What I don’t know is if that is good or bad. Time will tell.
The other thing I know for sure is that voice acress sure grew too old for these roles. My ears are bleeding

  • LUNI_TUNZ says:

I’ve never seen the original Card Captor Sakura even though I was watching Kid’s WB when the Nelvana version aired, so I don’t know how excited I should be about this.

  • Paulo27 says:

Thing about Precure having evolved is that that hasn’t made it any better, the shows are different but they still aren’t good.
CCS staying the exact is the best thing it could do and brings in the classical mahou shoujo that Precure never had.
