GARO – Vanishing Line #11 — I Ate the Sheriff

December 15th, 2017

Sophie still looks like she's dressed as a pikachu.

Impressions:

This definitely needed to get to the fun stuff way sooner and way faster. The first half overall didn't serve much of a point except to stretch out the episode. I'm not exactly sure how to take the ridiculuously over-armed cowtown though. At first, it seemed like it was just going to be a spaghetti Western stereotype, then they started dragged out grenades, RPGs, and an old lady pushing around a minigun while cackling madly. I… think that was meant to be an over the top joke, but it's hard to tell just what they were thinking with it.

Everything would've probably worked better had it hidden who the monster was instead of announcing it as the first damn thing, not to mention coming up with a bit of a better excuse for spiriting off Sophie so that whole bit wasn't so bizarrely sadistic. Hell, they even took time out in the draggy first half to give about a two sentence dump of the monster's backstory. Had they fleshed that out more, and severed it from the overall plot, they definitely could've had a solid episodic monster of the week story next to the goofy town. Alas.
