Princess Principal #06 — Daddy Issues Part 3

August 13th, 2017

Is there anybody in this show who wasn't tortured by their father?

Impressions:

Because it's getting pretty old. And especially because there wasn't really anything else to this episode. And especially especially because it was the dispassionate Dorothy who has reacted to everything thus far by being calm, collected, and professional who immediately loses control at every turn. And especially especially especially considering the eleventh hour "He really cared about her after all" garbage that made no sense whatsoever, and only made less sense as they tried to back out and explain how great her drunken abusive father actually was.

All this was made worse by attaching the most annoying one to her at the hip as the sidekick yet again, seemingly solely to tell her how thankful she should be to have been beaten and abused if it meant they could be friends. Really? That's the life affirming message you want to go with? Seriously? Not everything needs to have a silver lining, Japan, and especially not something as idiotically sappy as that.

3 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

I really hate the spy fiction thing of spies sitting on a bench with an informant, and looking away from then while blatantly speaking to them that aways tends to show up. You ain’t fooling anyone, you might as well whisper in each other’s ear at that point.

While “he really loved you after all” was pretty dumb, I loved the way the pub scene was scored with everyone singing drunkenly and happily and shit head’s being wheeled in to the morgue.

That said, if you could so easily buy that your father totally sold you out to some ruffians to pay a debt, he’s probably not that good a father that you’d moon over because he didn’t.

Welp, I knew the not mentioning the word spy a thousand time was practically a miracle and that they would return to it soon.

Aside for that, I still grateful that the show sticks to its premise. May be its corny, may be there are lot of things that are way too dumb, but at least the girls are still doing spy stuff and not just siting around.

It’s refreshing that it’s tiresome in a slightly different way.

I can’t even tell if I’m being sarcastic.

But I’m watching Symphogear which is doing the same thing with a couple dozen more episodes of repetition behind it, so probably not.
