Lovely Tyrant #12 — Hell is These People

June 22nd, 2017

Does it count as watching a show if you let it run for 20 minutes while fiddling with your phone?

Impressions:

They all go to hell, yell out empty platitudes about self-esteem, status quo is fully restored. The end. Summer season preview writeup should be up next Tuesday. New season starts on the 1st with not one, not two, but three sequels/spinoffs. Yay.

Final Thoughts:

I used the broadcast of an episode being delayed a few hours as an excuse to rewatch a terrible episode of a completely different show. I'm not sure much more needs to be said, but in the spirit of this show's writing, let's continue. The first episode showed some vim, especially by moving quickly from gag to gag and through all the relevant setup and introduction stuff in quick succession, but then everything ground to a complete halt. The comedy vanished, and we just got a series of character 'arcs,' where each girl in turn felt insecure about her feelings for the main character, and after a pep talk, decided that they weren't insecure any more. Said main character was literally dragged in front of them most times just to say "I think you're neat," which is all they needed. Even the structure was a mess. It repeatedly had 20 minute segments that would start in the middle of one episode and end in the middle of the next.

God only knows what anybody on the production staff was doing, but it sure as hell wasn't putting in any effort.

“Does it count as watching a show if you let it run for 20 minutes while fiddling with your phone?” that’s the only way I survive 90% of these idol shows

  • anise_punter says:

It was a middling show with some laughs where the biggest problem was the overplayed yandere gag – and then they introduced Shikimi and it absolutely went in the toilet from that point on.

  • Opulent Rag says:

Dude, in your final thought’s you basically described almost every harem anime in the past decade. It’s kinda expected that after the first or second ep. they tend to go down hill real fast; it’s just a matter of how many of the bumps they hit along the way are entertaining and not aneurysm-inducingly stupid.

  • kenuran says:

Honestly after all this I’m honestly just wondering why did the girls have superpowers…

  • The Phantom says:

I have always wondered why you end up picking the worst shows of the season to follow, bad luck I guess?.

You need to really do a pause at mid season and check the other shows and change the ones you are watching if they don’t work and the others are better, do not blindly follow shows just because they were good at the beginning, is a very bad practice.

This show is not average is just painfully bad, I dropped it mid second episode, It was bad, awful visuals, awful plot, awful comedy, just awful in general. Complaining about an awful show for being awful is just pointless.

At this point, I think it’s just a fetish, like hardcore masochism. It’d be great if he went after popular bad shows, like Eromanga-sensei or Dungeon-girls spin-off, or show’s that people prop up as excellent god-tier when they’re just average or okay at best, like AoT or something. Not so much reviewing them as just roasting them, I guess.

This and Akashic Records was a slog even by generic anime standards, I’d honestly prefer he’d drop’em and do, I don’t know, retro reviews or editorials or something. I mean, it’s his blog and I’m gonna read his opinions anyway, but sometimes it’s retreading the same ground like the very show’s he reviews.

      • The Phantom says:

Ero manga is awful yes, but the author is very aware is awful and makes fun of it being awful, most stuff is done for the laughs and I have to admit it has made me laugh quite often, last episode was hilarious, also pretty impressive voice acting as well.

        • LUNI_TUNZ says:

I think you give him too much credit.

The only reason I kept watching was because Elf became a legitimately funny and interesting character.

          Everyone else can burn.

  • arknoir says:

I Love the manga to this , but hate the anime version that’s all I’ll say about it.

BTW….Ero-manga sensei is one of the most loathesome shows I have seen in my lifetime. I deeply loathe the character ero-manga. Loathesome, loathesome little trollope.
