Akashic Records #11 — Winners Don’t Use Drugs

June 13th, 2017

Oh no! A thing that's powerful, I guess? Welp, I give up. Seeya.

Impressions:

So, after a bit last arc where the kids do arbitrary magic things in a competition where the winner is arbitrary declared, we move on to a bit where the kids do arbitrary magic things in a competition where the winner is arbitrarily declared. But it's completely different because it takes place in a field rather than a coliseum. Well, and it only lasted half the episode. The biggest shock of all though is that Whose-Her-Face still isn't kidnapped. I also love how Whose-His-Face starts immediately physically degrading, and like, a minute later, we flash over to get a very quick info dump on there's suddenly been an outbreak of magic meth usage in town. If only I could figure out how these things are connected. It's truly a mystery.

Still not a particularly interesting episode. As of twenty minutes into the episode, the only other thing that really kept this episode from being entirely filler restoring us right back to where we left off last week was another info dump about Glenn's dead crush. Other than that, the guy that was transparently evil already shockingly revealed himself to be overtly evil. Catface was being particularly bitchy for no good reason and apparently just completely gave up at the end to the most casual of threats about the openest secrets in the entire world. I've tried nothing, and I'm all out of ideas! Heroic. And then they kind of go "AND ALL IS DOOMED" because they forgot to add something approaching an actual cliffhanger for the last episode. Fantastic work all around, guys.

We can’t rule out Rumia being kidnapped in the finale, it’s what the show’s built on.

I don’t know, I guess Glen isn’t acting like the image of him in her head and that’s why she smacked him? Seems pretty dumb, as he clearly doesn’t seem to like her like that, but I guess she has a dumb schoolgirl crush on him and doesn’t see it like that.

Either way I love the “oh shit my one trick doesn’t work, better run away” tactic from Glen.
