Lovely Tyrant #05 — The Expository Exposition Episode

May 4th, 2017

Great. Everything I was hoping for in a 'comedy.'

Impressions:

They've all but given up on even trying to be funny, haven't they? First with Pinkface, then with 'God' and 'Satan,' all while our hapless hero sat there and stared like an epileptic lemming. Hell, Pinky just up and left because she got a call. Ten minutes for "she's a safist… still," and "she's their cousin," before the phone rings and that's it. Arc over. Character introduced at ridiculous length, absolutely nothing done or accomplished, and then futzed right away again, so it's time to introduce two more just to check off some boxes and do similarly nothing. At least they only had ten minutes instead of nearly twenty. The best this episode had to offer was one intentionally overly cryptic remark about Pinko being hollow inside, so her murderous obsession is totally different from any other character's obsession. Somehow. Because we say so.

And don't think Clockwork Planet was any better. They went to the beach this week, which is what this will be doing next week. Its new arc's antagonist? A little girl with a magic cube that turns into a death sphere by spinning. So the thing they're actually fighting is… a large floating marble. But that won't be until next week as well.

“Shows like this, they’re always an 8+ or a 3 with nothing in between, and you can tell very early.”

Honestly I could tell by april 20th but I didn’t want to. You’ll never guess which type it is (hint: the bad one)

I have nothing else to say about Clockwork Planet that I haven’t said in the other episode threads, I don’t understand how Naoto is supposed to be a character anyone would actually root for.

As for this show, despite everyone sitting around telling us how special Seiji is, I don’t understand how Seiji is subtitled to be a character anyone would actually root for.
