Akashic Records #05 — Tell, Then Show… Through Telling

May 2nd, 2017

So glad we had an episode to announce what was going to be announced this episode.

Impressions:

An episode that truly makes one wonder exactly how long they're going to harp on about Blondie, because the answer appears to be "until the end of time." Perhaps it might be a little more tolerable if they hadn't explicitly declared what her deal was going to be and are now just going right ahead and doing that. And we're getting a rehash of the first arc as well. Another random assassination plot, but this time by the royal guards who are bullying the queen, and she just goes along with it because… they have swords? What kind of weak-ass queen is this? They go out of their way to have this long bit about how everyone's helpless to act but Glenn because… there's a few guys with swords within thirty feet. Which just means that there's an explanation coming from someone eventually, and one can only hope it's as 'awesome' as the climax of the previous arc where the big bad stood around, rooted to the spot for… reasons.

It also doesn't help matters that the two people they introduced last week spend the episode hanging around and doing about 30 seconds of schtick. It's already obvious from the OP/ED that they're not antagonists, but gee, that cliffhanger really makes me wonder which side they're on! If they wanted the cliffhanger to at least semi-work in spite of the OP/ED, they could have at least made them out to be a little more menacing, or not even shown them bumming around at all. Either would've been fine. Or sort of similarly, they do this little schtick about a transformation spell at the start. Could've been a quasi-organic way to set up using that as a plot point later in the episode, except it never comes. So who knows? In a show with competent writing, that would've definitely been foreshadowing. Here, though? Even odds at best. For a later episode. Maybe.

  • LUNI_TUNZ says:

Rumia is the Princess Peach of this show, just getting kidnapped every other episode, repeatedly.

  • kenuran says:

This show makes me wonder if Rumia is going to keep getting kidnapped in every arc.

  • ZakuAbumi says:

Given that you barely have anything to watch this season, you might as well write a non-joke post on the new YGO!, starting next Wednesday.

It’s not like this season is packed with stellar shows so why not?

  • anise_punter says:

I saw how new girl’s name was being romanized and I am not having any part of it.

I thought it was a typo but nope they really think Re=L is an OK translated name. Because… yea
