God’s Blessings #12 — Prosecutorial Misconduct

January 11th, 2017

At least they framed the recap. More than C;C bothered to do.

Impressions:

Speaking of structure providing a framework in comedy, and repetition, this certainly comes a lot closer to convincing me it wasn't made by molepeople, or at the very least, whoever was in charge of composing the music was a moleperson who played Chrono Trigger as that was unmistakable and the kind of subtle referential humor that I can certainly get behind, at least moreso than the Star Wars and Phoenix Wright things, because those murdered subtlety and left it in a ditch. Nor did it really waste any time with recap or rehash… until halfway into the episode at least, where it did so under the excuse of an interrogation. And then continued through the trial. Well, B- for effort, I guess.

Of course, actual structure, a rarity in Japanese media, was always the show's strong point. It's always done well at the larger picture as far as that's concerned. Where it's struggled is the minute to minute things; the jokes that it tells along with the plot of the story, and even the mechanics of the story itself. This was no exception to that, and perhaps had even bigger issues as aside from the expository reiteration, the big climactic moment(s) were a complete disaster of total nonsense compounded by yet more nonsense. Not jokes that fall flat through repetition. Just 'stunning' twists and reveals that don't make an iota of sense or flow from one to the next. I kind of feel, especially from the OP, that the director is kind of at war with the writer(s) in this show. One understands how to make an actual comedy, but the other is a moleperson, and it's clear who has the backing of the producers.

  • anise_punter says:

The animators being mole people would explain why the faces are so weird and off-center all the time.

“This is what you think normal characters look like?”
“mole noises of approval and confirmation”

  • Sol says:

    Yay, more Subarashii SuckYouFuckYou!!

  • The Phantom says:

This is a weak start compared to season 1 episode 1, but it was funny regardless.

  • Sanjuro says:

Yeah I thought the faces looked weird half the time too. I don’t know if it was all for comedic effect or they’re trying to save money.
More Megumin is all gooood though.

  • Opulent Rag says:

To think that a middling fantasy/comedy anime is probably gonna beat out any other new series is kinda depressing. But fuck it, there have been worse anime that good despite the shitty seasons.
