Taboo Tattoo #03 — And Here’s a Capybara

July 18th, 2016

Okay. Why not?

Impressions:

It'd be easier to enjoy the animation on these action scenes if the camera wasn't constantly lurching around wildly. Izzy's fight especially was disappointingly brief. The other was a bit better, but the direction through it was fairly awful going right into the corny internal yelling about how Protagonisto is her hero/prince/whatever and then into further exposition from El Sidekick announcing the antagonist's dossier to her. On the other hand, Protagonisto and his muggle girlfriend fulfilled their roles much better towards the end of that. He lost control and attempted to obliterate his opponent, she pulled him back from the edge. Not fancy, but it worked well because it wasn't painfully drawn out.

The second half was a lot more dull and mostly back to exposition, but at least aside from the awful dress-up bit and self-fondling, settled out the tone a little better. I don't want to talk about the capybara. Muggle Girl did rise a few ranks by rolling with things without any requisite flipping out, either about the situation or about her boy sweating it up another girl. Seigi just caused more eye rolling with the standard "gotta protect the weak" schtick. Can't imagine how that could ever play into the former homeless girl who's being exploited by the antagonist but has a soft spot for injured animals. Nope, nope, nope.

The gun girl and the childhood friend look damn too similar, is like the same girl with different clothes.
