Re:Zero #05 — Penmenship is the Top Priority

Christ, what a waste of an episode.

Impressions:

I don't know why they keep skipping the OP when they're not putting jack squat in the episode. His entire plan, and the entirety of this episode was basically just "I'm going to stay up late this time." And what did he learn from that? That he was posioned. Probably. Unless it was magic. Hell if I know. Directing made it unclear, and I suspect it was probably on purpose. You could've covered the entire content of this episode in about two minutes, and most of that would've been a montage. Better yet, not had this episode at all, and just had him wake up feeling sick and die last week.

He's not even Groundhog Daying it up in the meantime by becoming a virtuouso at anything and everything. He takes a bath, sucks marginally less at household chores, flirts with imbeciles of both genders, and then dies from some unknown assailant. Again. Oh wait, his penmenship is slightly better. Because while we're just going to gloss over everyone speaking Japanese, they obviously would write Japanese in a completely different way and this is a very very important thing for him to be spending time on, right after peeling apples and sweeping.

    Yeah… this is starting to remind me of Rokka no Yuusha. The strategy of trying to hook viewers each episode with a mystery cliffhanger while putting practically no content in 18-20 minutes of said episode.

    seriously what a waste of time. by now I expected him to have sword skills and perfect penmanship (mostly because I expected it to be a 12eper but turned out its 25 eps) hell I at least expected to get a look at his killer.
