Dagashikashi #05 — Race Relations

Japan is not what one would call a cultural melting pot.
Impressions:
I'm finding my patience with this show is running much thinner than with other similarly unambitious things. I don't even know what to say about this episode. It sure was pretty much the exact same as the last three? I suspect that it's probably the tiny cast and that it's settled into a routine that shows absolutely no indication of anything changing in any way, be it characters, cast, jokes, or even backgrounds. Week in and week out, here's some random candy/snack that we'll sort of explain, and if you're lucky, we might draw something vaguely racist to go with it, and someone will get overly excited about some small thing related to it. I don't think the collapsed budget is doing it any favors either though. It's like watching those stupid Twix "pick a side" commercials on a twenty minute loop.
I find myself wishing it was a little more educational or something. I don't know. Show the candy/snacks being made or something. You've already done like 8 different bits on "overdramatize eating something" and 13 on shouting out what it tastes like. Let's try to find something new or different. Oh wait, a major chunk of the jokes this week was "she keeps picking losers." Ba-dum *tss* Laugh it up. I'm sure it's at least some part cultural since it's all "random thing" to me, but even so, those aren't really jokes to begin with, and I can't imagine it'd be any more amusing if they were doing bits about Warheads, Cracker Jacks, or Fruit by the Foot. Maybe sugar free gummy bears, but I think I've gotten maximal enjoyment from them just from the Amazon reviews.

Magical Witch Nodamiki knows you can be quasi-educational and humorous at the same time.
