Pandora in the Crimson Shell #01 — Finger Bang
January 8th, 2016
Stick that hand all the way in.
As with yesterday, I'll get to the rest of today's shows after work.
Impressions:
Well, let's get this out of the way so we can all decide on how offended we want to be and move on. Cyborg Lesbian A gains super powers by opening up Cyborg Lesbian B's crotch and shoving her hand in up to the wrist to grope around for her sweet spot, whereupon they explode in a psychedelic rainbow of colors, as I understand the female orgasm is wont to do. It's not tremendously sexualized, but you know, it's also a little hard to ignore. Of course, the deadly terrorists are the League of Fetish Models, so nobody can accuse this of being not being Japanese enough. It was never in any danger of taking itself too seriously either, even when getting arms blown off. They probably overdid it with destroying the entire city with their 'hilarious' terrorist antics.
Which isn't to say that if you can get over the finger banging power ups, it's all smooth sailing. It kicked off off the terrorist bit with a somersaulting maid punching and kicking little mechs, and you'd expect things to ramp upward from there, but apparently that's about all the budget had in it as far as the action went. The protagonist in particular has no volume below Shout. She's enthusiastic about events and happy to jump into danger to save people without a mountain of self-introduction explaining herself, but she's also a neverending source of noise that was grating already. The other two existed to 'comically' transform into exasperated blobs or explain things in the background. Servicable, but nothing to get excited about. It also didn't so much as have jokes as it did characters spontaneously looking 'cute,' and occasionally an absurd thing, so your mileage will vary. It's certainly different from most comedies these days in that respect, but I'd be hardpressed to call it better, just less overtly obnoxious.
