Dagashikashi #04 — Peasant of Stride

And suck on something phallic.

Impressions:

The whole blind candy ID thing was almost otherwise devoid of jokes for the most part. She got it right easily and that's shocking? It… took him a long time, but then he got it right? Then they tried to recycle one of the joke's from last week, except do it a couple more times. Only at this point, about eight minutes in did they realize that sticking phallic things into mouths was kind of like oral sex. I'm not sure if that was a good or bad thing. I wasn't even clear on why they needed to be bound and blindfolded in the first place though.

The second half of the episode didn't fare too much better, starting with "hey, boobs," before going for a terribly animated light jog where the humor completely evaporated to make way for a series of hokey math and science lessons. Certainly could've overplayed the stupid candy for energy thing, but they did not. It was just one little "we're going to pretend like this is melodramatic, which lets us drag it out" 'gag' before returning to where it began with "hey, boobs." The shift to only two segments this week did not do things any good at all.

Oh I think you know, as much as you wish you didn’t.

I’m glad they didn’t try to turn the notebook into some kind of melodrama though, I know some people aren’t big on the ‘double-standard violence’ thing Saya’s got going but I much prefer it to an outcome where she gets all mopey and sad.

When this show started, I thought Hotaru’s a kind of funny, quirky character, and maybe she’d work better in a different show, but man they’ve been trying to change my opinion of her.

Ever since she’s just been a bland mouthpiece for dagashi, that the writers desperately want us to jerk off to.

I think “Candy Wars” was probably this show’s last attempt at a joke.

This was just one big advert for the inevitable doujins.
