Symphogear GX #07 — Maria Transforms… And Transforms… And…

August 15th, 2015

This was a weird way to recap.

Impressions:

This was a narratively bizarre episode and I have a difficult time seeing what this advanced or accomplished. If they had replaced Grinny Water McTeeth with just an evil doll of the week, it would have been shockingly close to a bottle episode even. It was kind of like they meant to include Maria in the past few episodes but had forgotten, so needed an episode to do a repeat/digest of the last couple weeks, only with Maria alone. Well, and a fair bit of just straight up fanservice to replace all the grunting, technobabbling, and only some of the feelings powering, because the desire to get stronger in order to… get stronger, is the most compelling character motivation imaginable.

It unfortunately continued the trend of all the effort in animating fights going into beating up the Noise instead of named characters interacting with each other in the fist to face way. Those parts remain depressingly full of stills, speedlines, and grunting. I can’t even imagine what they’re thinking with the… reveal? confrontation? whatever it was at the end with Hibiki’s long lost father working at a random convenience store either. I really simply have no idea how that is supposed to tie into anything or provide… well… anything in any manner. Who even cares?

5 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Germanguy says:

The Problem with this Crystal Necklance get destroyed and somehow get a New one back.

Hibiki’s entire Body is nearly an living Crystal. Ho the heck did she got effected? She should had be immune or die. But someone they forgotten about that

    • Longing says:

In season 2 they deus ex machina’d Hibiki’s Gungnir out of her body when she fights Miku who randomly had the power to erase the relics. She then took Maria’s Gungnir (apparently there were two) and that’s the crystal she’s using now.

Not saying it wasn’t fixed in a stupid way, but it’s not a plot hole.

      • Germanguy says:

Bah, i left out Season 2.. And looks like for a good reason. The Splinter was near her Heart, and to dangerous to get it out there, and they use Deus ex machina? Oh well, as if there would be no aftereffects like weaken Body functions. It is the same as if they forceful rip of Naruto’s 2nd Mana source in his belly…

Season 1 was good, season 2 was to silly because of some old woman revenge, and sadly this Season is also to funny. despite having a strong 1st Episode

        • Germanguy says:

          remember

This Show started with the Actions, the Singers, and Story. But know? Its fan service virus

        • Longing says:

You’re preaching to the choir on that one. Randomly give Miku a relic that can somehow save Hibiki and have them fight. Boom! Instant recovery.

Season 3 still has time to turn it around… probably… maybe… possibly?
