Yatterman Night #04 — Banzai!

They need a better cheer, like “Viva Monster Union.”

Impressions:

Speaking of random slapped together, I’m about 98% sure that this episode ended up a couple minutes short so they slapped that bizarre bit about the pig onto the start. That was… weird. Two-Face also apparently hasn’t learned anything and is back to rolling dice to make his decisions for him. I guess he didn’t learn jack squat last week after all. I also liked how when they went to save the slaves, they just grabbed the one guy and ran off, leaving all the rest staring after them in confusion. And then they were immediately recaptured. Great work, team.

Anyway, despite being centered around a pregnant woman who saw a cockroach and thought to herself “that’s the kind of hair I want” (and because apparently everything has to be about a mother in some way), it was mostly concerned with the introduction of a new antagonist, who I’m sure is probably more meaningful to someone who actually knows a bloody thing about the original series. At least we got the inevitable villagers sell out the good guys for their own gain out of the way. It’d have been nice if they tried to do at least something with the formula, but at least Tatsunoko’s animators finally got tired of drawing sparkly haze and tossed together some action animation to live up to the opening.

Did you ever write about “Melody of Oblivion”? It’s not on your archive list.

Nah. It’s well before the domain’s genesis. I’m sure I would have had fun covering it if I had though.
