Akame #21 — ‘Cause He’s Like Jesus

November 23rd, 2014

But don’t bother disarming him or anything.

Impressions:

The episode began with them talking about how important Tatsumi was and how much he had changed them simply by existing, so within 30 seconds a goddamned minute and a half, I was hopelessly confused. There are two Tatsumis now? And one of them was out there doing something and having meaningful interactions with people instead of sitting around like a damp sponge? Why would you give such different characters the same name? Then I considered that it could be one of those ship in a bottle episodes where the crew flies through a singularity and it turns out they were sentient goop who forgot they were goop all along. But then I remembered I wasn’t watching Star Trek and got confused again.

Pretty much the same as every other ‘action’ packed episode of the show. Lots of speedlines, lots of posturing, lots of announcing particularly inane crap like “Oh no, I can’t move!” and since it seems to be a recurring theme, Mine wins her fight by relying on the full power of the ass-pull gun out-beaming someone because of all the danger she was in. I think my favorite moment was when Lightning Head shot the flying manta ray, completely electrifying it, and everyone, including all the people on top of it, simply ignored it. All the nonsense with Susan and regenerating/using life force (ie grunting and then a little mouth blood) to power up was also high up there. I think I’m developing a nervous retch every time someone says “Interesting!” too.

Next Episode:

The titular character finally does something, maybe.

  • algorithm says:

So they actually turned this into a cheap DBZ rip off.

    • asd says:

Don’t be silly, DBZ was already so cheap a cheap ripoff would look like the spiderman cartoon from the 80’s.

  • jingoi says:

    tatsu…who?……oh, the MC a.k.a denseman.
Yeah, that’s their power, making girls lives better just by being nice and existing, not like the other nice guy with personality and ability not to tolerate tsun shit could have helped you.

  • The Phantom says:

This kinda changed paced fast, not long ago it was so slow to crawl, now it seems that the big guy that was supposed to be invincible is dead, little sister will die next episode, and esdeath killed on the last episode? So they are not leaving anything for another season huuum?.

  • ElevatorDreams says:

They have caught up to the manga so they have to create their own ending now.

  • Longing says:

At least I won’t have to hear the word “pinch” 10 times in every fight now.
