Rage of Bahamut #04 — Pirates of the Caribbean

October 27th, 2014

I think Cerberus is getting fluffier by the week.

Impressions:

I think this episode might have been a little too bonkers, but it’s such a rare problem in Japanese animation, that I can’t be all that mad at it for that. Especially with the totally shocking betrayal toward the end which kept getting eviler and eviler until he practically spontaneously grew a Snidely Whiplash moustache and started twirling it while tying orphaned puppies to the railroad tracks. Oh, and the armies of bad CGI zombies/sahuagin rocking back and forth in each other’s arms in a peaceful ballroom dance aboard a rocking ship. Aaah, sea love. It’s still great to see the action and animation thereof otherwise still holding its head damn high through the entire episode though.

I do have a few complaints above and beyond it the second half wildly jerking about from giant crabs to sahuagin to zombie pirates, and they’d be entirely centered around Elvis. For one, you’d think they’d have included his connection to Favarro last week with all the maudlin gooeyness then. I highly suspect they wanted to tack on the eyerolling bit about Amira’s father and didn’t have enough time so had to split it up. For two, wasn’t he supposed to be all noble and such and trying to regain his honor and prestige as compared to Afro’s brigand (and brigand family) ways? You know, like the moral stick-in-his-ass foil to Afro Cowboy? So… uh… After embarrassing the pirates that tried to shanghai him, he just went ahead and let his Gal Friday murder and enslave them all? I don’t know how Favarro’s supposed to top that in next week’s wife swap episode.

Lol at the end of the episode…If the bad guys could have abducted demon girl so easily why didn’t they do that from the beginning?

    • Iron Maw says:

Because as Azazel stated back in episode 3, they had orders from the higher ups to just watch her and see if there was anyone behind her actions may have appeared. He himself decided it was time to act when turned out it was true (hint: Bacchus).
