Tokyo Ghoul #10 — Behold Our CGI Ceiling Fan

September 4th, 2014

Someone at some point made an explicit request for that, just for that shot. Let that sink in.

Impressions:

Better than last week, but they could have farted the 1812 Overture and that would have been better. As seems to be a running theme for the last week, they took what could have been a pre-OP sequence setting up an episode and decided to make it the entire thing. Well, the part that actually involved any protagonists, although since they just sat there and got beat up like usual, they’re less protagonist and more protato. They didn’t even really try with the ‘get beat up’ thing either. We’ve had multiple characters shrugging off getting cleaved in half, so a little minor blunt force and a nose bleed isn’t going to cut it. They didn’t even go that far for Whose-Her-Face. She just got hit with some… blunt needles maybe? And then she was down for the count, so horribly injured by… plot convenience? Same reason why they all need to band together for Kaneki, I suppose. Lord knows he’s done jack for any of them ever.

Team Human ate up the other half, but they didn’t do anything new or interesting. It introduced a couple new characters, but besides fulfilling the roles of “Yet another person to rant about evil” and “We needed to replace the crazy-looking guy, so here’s another one,” they have only a tenuous at best connection to things going on period, let alone the events of the rest of the episode, which leaves it as just another setup portion in a vacuum without a clear idea of what exactly new it’s setting up and why that time couldn’t have been spent farting the 1812 Overture instead.

Next Episode:

Return of the fop.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I’ve thought.
