Rurumo #02 — Paint By Numbers

July 16th, 2014

Whoa, guys. Don’t get too ambitious.

Impressions:

A packed episode featuring ten minutes of sitting around watching her with his obnoxious friends, and then ten minutes of “she moves in with him.” You can probably guess how the whole thing went from that alone. Have the ‘obsessed male friends’ in anime ever once been anything but annoying? I’m sure it must have happened once just based on the law of averages, but I’m struggling to think of any time. They’re always just some crappy thing to suffer through at the start, almost invariably as a way to try to show the protagonist’s relative chivalry before being more or less written out of the show and ceasing to exist.

And for the second half, the main joke repeated ad nauseam was that his mother’s eyes went dead and she stared whenever he did anything suspicious. Over and over and over and over and over again. Repetition being the greatest of all comedy devices. It hasn’t improved on any front, and my patience is about at an end for a comedy that still isn’t making me laugh, even for a show that airs early enough on a fairly weak day for me to cover it before work.

Next Episode:

More shouting.

5 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Anon says:

He really care for this Magical Girl… Interesting…

  • The Phantom says:

His mother was somehow more disturbing than the talking cat. It seems that the plot of this show is over, unbelievable, do they seriously expect that Newton first law will carry this show from here to end season?.

    • JadeiteAX says:

      And you’re surprised because?

Isn’t that the same thing nearly every studio has been expecting with nearly every show for the past decade?
