Mischief of the Gods #01 — “Bitch, I’m FABULOUS”

April 5th, 2014

Perhaps TOO fabulous.

Impressions:

And our third “joins magical school”, but this time with genders reversed. Maybe this one won’t involve any overtures of sexual violence. At least that was my thought before I started the episode, when lo and behold, this would be an episode that tried to begin with a hook. Okay, so the dismembered children of Dragonar probably count too, but this one actually began with fireworks. Poor fireworks, mind you, but it tried. And then there was the transformation sequence. Good lord, the transformation sequence. It even had the pop ED sequence too.

Yet despite being the funniest couple things I’ve seen today, I know in my heart of hearts that they were not jokes. The episode was entirely too formulaic for that. Our braindead protagonist pops into a new school (albeit this time with an Inuyasha bent, as it reminds us about forty times), bumps into every pretty boy in turn complete with exploding flowers behind each, announces how pretty they all are and how strange the situation is another forty times, the principal/Zeus gives her orientation, and end with the main one about to kiss her. And only three of them loom over/mount her! Only! A bold step forward for women everywhere.

Besides the opening scene and excessive fab of the start and end, no real surprises here. Cheap, unambitious and very, very, very by the numbers in every respect. Maybe I’m just not enough of a connoisseur of these brand of shows to be able to spot the minute differences in pastel backgrounds and flowery puffs, but I do know that none have a monocle, and so what’s the point?

Is that the Diabolik Lovers of this season?

  • The Phantom says:

I found absolutely disgusting the male leads adorned with flowers and all the time trying to rape the girl, it was creepy and disgusting I want no part in this shit.

Good god, how the shoujo genre has fallen.
