Wiz Bars #03 — Shark Knight Lawyers

That sounds like the kind of thing a ten year old would come up with.
Impressions:
Not to belabor the point, but when they have the white-haired, scarred, brooding pretty boy haunted by a past case now returned to haunt him some more, I feel like putting him in a gaudy polka dot shirt undermines his character just a little bit, to say nothing of the miniature pig he is apparently living in sin with. At least Arms is showing a surprising amount of gender parity by making both Kermit and Miss Piggy into sexual predators. Not sure why they exist at all, but there’s probably something you have to sign before Arms takes on any project requiring a minimum amount of groping and mounting.
It was a bit of a relief that they gave the mecha a rest this week for magical punch-up time, although with Gun-Haver being the one to win the day in a room full of supposedly super wizards, one has to wonder. There’s not a whole lot to say about the case of the week. Woman out for revenge, decides to just blow up everyone. Bishie’s motivations for freeing her could have been better handled. The only personality trait he really had was “moody” and that doesn’t go very well toward freeing an unrepentent confessed murderer. I was happy it kept things focused on the case of the week and woman in it though. I hope they keep that up. It gives the case du jour importance within the episode while also allowing aspects of it to touch on and advance the overarching plot as the bookends of the episode, a trick that’s practically a cliche in any of your standard western fantasy procedural types of shows (Buffy, Supernatural, etc). Still, anything involving the rather unsurprising near-murder of the entire court room seems like it’d need a bit more mens rea. Look at me, knowing lawyer words!
Oh, and I guess there was some kind of subtle thing about Ceci’s hair beads probably being some now-cracking seal on her magic or something. Subtle being entirely relative since it was as obvious as day, yet nobody spent 30 seconds explaining it along with flashback to hammer it home.
Belated Edit:
Apparently the beads explode in the extended Youtube preview for next week, but my sarcastic point still holds.Â
Next Episode:
Bath time.
