Yozakura Quartet #11 — Coffee Mugs

December 15th, 2013

Boy, did that segment grind already slow things to a halt.

Impressions:

Every anime studio should have a five year old on staff to ask important questions like “Why do we keep having shots of coffee mugs?” That in turn should send a red flag up that perhaps they could be using their visuals or time a little more intelligently. That entire segment toward the end was a giant lead weight around the neck of an episode already struggling to be particularly exciting, and then they had some kind of coffee-mug-lust. Hell, there was even a smooth jazz beat playing there as if it was designed to knock the audience out right before the ‘cliffhanger.’

The rest of the episode was far from exciting as well unless you’d call its continued newfound magnaminity towards panty shots for all characters instead of just Ao to be exciting. The creepy little sister who (pretend) cuts and burns herself for attention isn’t going far enough to really sell deranged nor anything even approaching sympathetic. Plus she’s also been hanging around since literally the first episode of the show on the sidelines, so another 22 minutes of her lurking is not exactly endearing her to me, especially not as an obviously transient end-of-season subantagonist.

Next Episode:

Sister act.

  • Athos says:

…did you just compare anime studios to genre savvy evil overlords…?

There’s hidden meaning there somewhere– I just can’t… quite put my finger on it at the time.

Finally, hot mage babe entered the fray! Let the danmaku fly!
