Tokyo Ravens #09 — Uncomfortable Things to Put Between Your Thighs

December 3rd, 2013

I’ve given up trying to understand why things are or are not CGI in this show.

Impressions:

A large part of my amusement with this episode was its inability to keep a consistent tone. Kon especially seemed unable to break free from comic relief for any meaningful period of time despite the swelling background music. In particular, I enjoyed laughed at the ’emotional’ scene between Horn-Head and Random-Male-Cheerleader though. The tinkling piano music was just too much for a particularly corny scene featuring him ride off on a magic horse to deliver his ‘staff’ to his boyfriend. Homoerotic? Naaaaaaah.

Of course, the relative lack of fight the nue put up and the helium tengu weren’t really helping matters either, but at least they showed something. Who wants to see two supposedly extra-powerful people fighting via giant magic wolf when we can instead watch someone poke a sociopath with his crutch? This was then followed up by someone with such immense presence to go with the horrible and corny Japanese vernacular, that he can make his car disappear. We still already have at least two or three characters who already have immense presences doing nothing but hanging around glaring at teenagers or each other, and/or poking things. Do we really need more?

So in conclusion the episode was good.

  • The Phantom says:

Im getting tons of chrome shelled regios vibes here, even one of the divine general here, looks like the heaven blade user of the golden threads.

  • CTT says:

The old guy in the car was more silly than scary, and Kon’s attics did feel a little out of place, but as long as there’s bromance I’m pretty happy

  • FlameStrike says:

lol… thanks to Kon I couldn’t take the fight seriously at all. There was no tension despite the music.

  • LollerCoaster says:

I googled “Ashiya Doman” and “葦屋道満” (the name of old dude in the car) and it looks like he’s some kind of historycal / fictional character whose name won’t make you ring a bell unless you’re some kind of japan-holic.

    Am I wrong?
