Kill la Kill #04 — Takeshi’s Castle

October 24th, 2013

Takeshi’s Castle seems a bit… uh… dated at this point.

Impressions:

A 100% ‘comedy’ episode, and I think I’ve made my opinion on the comedy in this show clear over the past couple weeks. And yet here we are with about two paragraphs yet to go. For some reason, other people seem to like Mako though, but my pet theory is that they’re masochists who simply like being yelled at. I think they probably could have set the motivation bar a bit lower than "revenge for dead family even if it kills me" if they were going to fill up the middle with slapstick. When (if?) it gets back to that, I’m sure it’ll feel very silly, although I don’t really expect that kind of awareness from Japan.

It did seem more than a little strange for the other girl to be so easily absorbed into their little group. Not that characterization has been a particularly strong point of the show so far, but Matoi would not exactly be characterized to date by her willingness to selflessly help random bystanders. In fact, I’m fairly certain given the general level of collateral damage she causes, I think it’s safe to say that it’s the opposite. The third wheel interfering with them that they can’t get rid of seems like such an obvious joke too, and wouldn’t have required momentarily rewriting anybody’s personality.

Next Episode:

If you’re reading this, then I’ve forgotten to change the template.

“other people seem to like Mako”

As a Oribe Yasuna fan, it’s hard to understand.

  • Flood says:

What was the point with all the “Pulp Fiction” characters in the background during some of the scenes.? I didn’t understand the tie-in to that movie.

  • anon says:

The uniform is the best character.

  • Dave Baranyi says:

Mako is the “monkey”. The only questions left are when does the car show up, and what happened to the rock-opera that goes with the staircase?
