Sunday Without God #11 — Happy Birthday!

September 14th, 2013

Yeah, I’ve pretty much checked out of this show at this point.

Impressions:

I wish I had a big red hot brand reading "Show Don’t Tell" that I could use to brand into their faces. A few ‘spooky’ visual effects aren’t going to cut it, especially not those awful blur filters. But the fly is trapped in the van! And only Ai can open the window and set it free! It’s symbolic! Someday, I should try to figure out what it is that’s spawning the escapist world that the protagonists need to destroy for the better of all, even if it kills everyone in it. Let’s say it’s the Dream of Akinosuke, although that’s more about having metaphysical soul sex with ants.

I forget my point besides that it was just another goddamned boring episode where Ai stood there like an idiot while people talked at her. And talked more at her. And when that wasn’t enough, they just talked at the audience. Oh, and she had a birthday part too, since the episode would have otherwise been two minutes too short. Maybe I’ll start calling them protos, because lord knows the last time they managed the -agonist part of the equation may have been beating up some punks back in episode 3. It also helps me to imagine them as alien monks unfamiliar with human interaction, which is a little close for comfort.

Next Episode:

More of the same.

5 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

Less whatever this is, more Korra.

  • ShuffleAir says:

How about just less of this in general.

KamiNai started off so well with the first three episodes as well. What a shame…

  • Longing says:

I imagine most people feel the same way. But, with only one episode left, might as well finish it.

It’s just kind of sad to see a show with such an interesting start (at least with the premise) slowly kill itself in such an uninteresting way.

  • Di Gi Kazune says:

Have not watched but was planning to.
From what I can gather from the this and the previous commentaries, this show is a boring slice of life with supernatural themes.

Are we far off from that summary?
