The 〇〇 Prince and Stony Cat #04 — Comedic Timing
May 4th, 2013
And a lack thereof.
Impressions:
A very melodramatic episode mostly devoid of any attempts at humor and you know how enthusiastic I always am when it comes to those. Especially when shows take 180 turns from (attempting to be) silly and cute into angsty misunderstandings and teenage angst. What’s the matter, JC Staff? Are you afraid of success? Well, not success exactly, but… whatever this is. Or is that Mari Okada hiding behind the curtain whispering dark thoughts into your ears?
Issue du juor is TsuLarge’s relationship with TsuSmall and comes complete with sad piano, moonlight conversations, and protagonist whining in impotent petulance. The only thing that could’ve made it more moronically melodramatic is if it had spontaneously started raining. And all building up to the non-punchline that she cares about TsuSmall slightly more than is probably healthy. That’s it. Cut out about 15 seconds and there wouldn’t have been any joke in there period. Thankfully, there was a vibraslap, splash background, and the camera started shaking to tell me that the joke had been made. Thanks, JC Staff.

JC Staff can’t go a season without drama, it makes them feel nervous and unclean.
