Love Live! #09 — Stalking the Wild Maid

March 3rd, 2013

They did not try very hard this week.

Impressions:

This episode was held together with little more than spit and tape, which I suppose is par for the course whenever a maid cafe episode is involved, but still… Hell, that’s what the point of the entire first half was; discovering that she worked at a maid cafe. Well, and I guess the first sign that they existed outside of their school. At least it freed up my brain to wonder about minor mysteries such as Kotori’s magically changing tint, or where the ginormous backward R on Eri’s shirt goes to.

The whole point was just to check off the box on the checklist for "put the characters in maid dresses" and they barely even tried to do anything more than that, or even bother to try to naturally weave it into the story or characters in any way, instead opting for the ol’ random nameless character tells them to be a maid and then they’re a maid. Judging by the preview for next week, we’re going to be continuing down the checklist too. The ‘pressure’ on her wasn’t even introduced until uh… 14 minutes into the episode, was mainly a brief montage of her being out of it, and then resolved a couple minutes later by the power of friendship and everybody else maiding it up in another friendship montage to end things. I guess they had an extra single to sell and didn’t want to spend the money on another one of those extra high quality dance sequences.

Preview:

Sleepover and pool episode apparently.

4 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Blood C says:

Are you going to be covering the Blood C movie? I hear it’s a pretty “good” sequel.

  • Kusano says:

Indeed could have thrown more gags at the maid cafe. :()

  • The Phantom says:

Bha! this season sucks and next season looks overall poor too, only devil survivor2 anime stands out. Rest is either mecha, lolis, or fanservice.

Of course this blog will surely follow the fanservice shows with the excuse that is fun lol.
