Good Job Club #08 — Polka Dot Bikini
February 27th, 2013
Not itsy bitsy teeny weeny enough.
Impressions:
Another sister-centered episode, although continuing the recent trend, the segments were painfully, painfully stretched out entirely too long, keeping anything from having much of any energy or being snappy. Aaah, for the first episodes, where they leapt right from one segment to the next. Wasn’t this show’s entire original gimmick that every segment was very short? It was slow enough to start with. It really doesn’t need to be made slower and emptier. Tama was also kind of strangely absent for the episode, having like… two lines, and making me wonder why it didn’t come before introducing her if she was just going to be immediately dropped into the background. Oh right, to be able to stick her in a swimsuit too. How silly of me to forget.
Admittedly, I had a feeling that something was probably off when the episode opened up with 8 seconds of the roof. No voice over. Nothing at all. Just a picture of the roof for 8 seconds before the OP kicked in. I don’t even want to talk about the post-CM cheapness either. Combine the start with that with the usual post-ED schtick, and you have like… 10% of the episode that obtrusively looked like it was animated by a side of ham. Alas poor budget. We hardly knew ye.

It’s the infamous beach/pool episode without the beach/pool. I’m not sure if it’s ingenious or lazy.
In any case, I feel like if a show ever f’d up a golden opportunity, it’s that segment. Half the fun of the show is Kyoro’s interaction with everyone else and all it was him standing there not doing anything at all. He didn’t even say anything about the swimsuits except, “yo, you’re wearing swimsuits.”
I dunno, I just don’t understand how they go from making hairbrushing “sexy” to making a segment about everyone standing around in swimsuits the most boring part of the show…
