Hidamari Sketch xHC #07 — World Debut

November 15th, 2012

"I am very happy."

Impressions:

Enough with the goddamned baths. They’ve long since transitioned from a cutesy sort of series thing to just a way to blatantly fill the time, made all the more obvious by the other generic sequences that like Yuno waking up that it feels like I’ve seen a thousand times already. The first half of this one was noticeably stronger than the second, although parts of it made me think back to GA Art Design and how it handled characters doing AND teaching about art so very much better and (usually) more entertainingly. Here we just have Miyako with a random nonsequitor at the end. I’m also pretty sure that her 3D is far more impressive than Yuno’s generic genericness.

It feels like they were hitting the pastel/flowery backgounds pretty hard this week, as well as that awful distance shot of Arisawa/Yuno sitting at a table. Yes, I realize that’s not their apartment and you’d have to draw some different angles and backgrounds than usual, but instead of that, you basically just gave up and use the same three or four over and over again for an almost an entire segment while sonorific violins tried to lull me to sleep. At least they remembered to give Yoshinoya a squeak or too.
