The Woman Named Fujiko Mine #02 — …Nipples

April 11th, 2012

Yes, okay. You’re ‘adult.’ Please stop that now.

Impressions:

Production took a pretty big hit this week, as did the general energy. At least they’re still keeping the tone and presentation consistent. Perhaps Okada loses 95% of her craziness when writing episodic shows. It’d explain a lot of EVOL too. Still, Lupin himself is the largest draw to the series and removing him from the entire thing is not a great move. Besides that, Fujiko and Jigen have little chemistry and it continues its trend of trying to be ‘adult’ by sticking nipples into every available crevasse. That does trail off in the second half a little bit, but it’s pretty bad in the first when Fujiko is just randomly naked for reasons I can’t fathom. Aside from the obvious ones of course.

I can’t say I was a fan of the story for this week either. It was more convoluted than it needed to be for one. I think they had written it for Jigen alone and then struggled to find a way to cram Fujiko into it. Most of what she did was travel from point A to point B to give people someone to talk to so they didn’t feel silly monologuing to the air. If they had focused better on Jigen’s woman and her love for him, that would have helped immensely. The whole shoot out at the end with the standoff not three minutes after basically offering to be killed for him then flipping out when sugar daddy said he’d kill Jigen instead didn’t make a whole lot of narrative sense. Yes, they did show that her gun was empty after Jigen shot her, but there should’ve been a stronger transition into the standoff instead of practically nothing at all.
