Saki Yada Yada Achiga #01 — MAHJONG MAKES THE PEOPLE LEAVE!!

April 8th, 2012

However will she overcome this crisis?

What worries me the most is how Nodoka is still rocking at least a C cup despite supposedly being about 13. That cannot possibly be healthy. Just what kind of dairy steroids are they feeding her? Maybe it’s that opaque bathwater Japan uses, although then you’d think that everybody would have them. Maybe it’s just giving them all cancer and Nodoka was one of the ‘lucky’ ones to end up with the tumorous growths on her chest and the other one got giant hair from it. Well, actually, you never really can tell how much time passed when the Japanese begin montaging. I just assume it was a significant due to becoming ENDLESS ETERNAL FRIENDS over it, but also knowing Japanese anime writing in general, it might have been all of a day because as you know, in the anime worlds, females are forced to either swear a bond of eternal semi-bisexual friendship after making eye contact or devote their lives to tearing out each other’s ovaries through their throats. Those are the only two options.

I’m rambling because I don’t have a lot to say. It was a very very by the books introductory episode. Here’s the main group, they’re friends, now they’re separated, GASP, let’s get the old gang back together in the most convoluted way possible that involves shouting out your feelings to anybody unfortunate enough to be passing by. It wasn’t abysmal, but at the same time, I can’t think of a single notable thing to say about it either. Animation wasn’t bad, but it was far from good, especially with the cheap montaging in there. If you just switch the gender of the characters, this would be practically indistinguishable from any of a hundred children’s ‘sport’ shows when small children scream at each other about friendship. It’s not like mahjong is actually important here at all anyway.

8 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Chen says:

Aroduc sure has an unhealthy fixation on breasts, crotches and/or ovaries.

  • Dynellen says:

Mahjong lesbians are back, that’s at least one show worth watching this season

More like what INTRIGUES you the most, we know how this works, no one is fooled.

To be honest I’m surprised this didn’t just get the raging badger that K-On!! got in the season preview from 2010; the Saki manga is pretty good but the anime just seemed like such a slog, and here the Achiga-side manga is already this long drawn out affair that I can’t see how this is possibly going to work.

  • Barry Sanders says:

Actually, Nodoka is about 11 in the flashback. Not 13. I think her parents injected her with HGH when she was younger.

  • U.Renko says:

When will they make a decent mahjong anime like Akagi again?

  • Kefit says:

The best part of the episode was the two seconds at the end with Yuuki. This show’s cast of characters is lacking compared to the first series. Let’s hope it gets slightly more interesting and mahjong actiony now that it’s past the frankly poor introductory premise.

Pantsless main character means this show is going to be best of the season.
