Aquarion EVOL #18 — Damsel In Distress

April 29th, 2012

Man, Zessica. You can’t even sacrifice yourself right.

Impressions:

Really piling on the melodrama here. Mix ends being the sacrifice, making it super important for Andy, Zess, and Mikono who she had her super special bonding with this week. Like Zess needed yet another reason to be angsty besides her best friend sacrificing herself for her sake. Not too much besides that. Kamurogi’s still not a great antagonist, especially compared to Kagura, but at least he beat them up a little bit. He’s got no real connection to any of them and hasn’t gotten his hands personally dirty enough for him to be a passable villain just on acts of firing lasers randomly alone. Besides, we all know that it’s going to end with both planets getting together again.

Still, not exactly the damsel in distress that I was expecting with Mykage and Kagura obsessing over Mikono for… let’s see here… 18 of the last 18 episodes, but I guess we’ve still got a couple months to go. I fully expect her to be brainwashed and back on the right planet within a week or two anyway for Andy’s hole-love (ew) power to restore her to normal. Because that’s what villains always do with captured characters. "They can’t possibly fight against on of their own! Our plan is perfect!" Although in a world where a blocked giant robot punch results in a giant oedipal images, it just might work. This show’s not the kind to actually go through the whole breeding stock nonsense anyway.

I can’t take Zessica seriously when she wears that dress.

  • bilbo says:

Was there ever a time to take her seriously?

  • Anonymous says:

I don’t think this anime is even taking itself seriously.

Still, I prefer this less linear plot compared to many other shows where you can always predict what happens next week. The randomness keeps interest up and the cheesy logic pretty much leave any possibilities open.

  • Shirokuma says:

There’s no way anyone can take this show seriously but the angsty candy colored teens who populate it, especially when the main villain wears flower crowns in his free time.

  • Shakika says:

personally i really like the series compared to the first one. The only thing i dont like is the new aquarion, the old one was sick though.
also they should bring back the assualt vector but modify it a little like instead of a gun a giant sword on alpha or somthing
