Symphogear #08 — “And Now We’re Lesbians Again”
February 24th, 2012
Carrying someone unconscious off the streets and dressing them in your clothes is probably the sign of a sociopath.
Impressions:
Well, it was an episode centered around Miku, and I believe that I’ve already made my feelings about her and her lack of contribution to anything I have the slightest interest in fairly well known. She didn’t even have the good graces to continue in her jealous craziness, instead doing a complete 540 from last week and becoming friends with Kurisu as well as making up with Hibiki because she couldn’t even last a day wihout her lesbian snuggle bunny. Sponging down Kurisu’s abundant… symphogears… probably put certain thoughts into her hormone riddled mind. The texting scene where they made up was okay, I guess, at least from a direction standpoint, but it was still abusively heavy handed and the resolution to an ‘arc’ that barely lasted half an episode. The whole thing just reeks of them discovering they were about ten minutes light after finishing up all the storyboards and shoving this in.
So basically, a rarity for the show. Nothing really happened except resetting a particularly irritating side character back to how she was ten minutes before the episode began. Hoo-bloody-ray. I’d care more if Miku had even the slightest involvement in the actual plot. She’s has less relevance, not to mention homosexual lust for the main character, than Jimmy Olsen, but doesn’t have the good grace to just disappear for long stretches of time. Kurisu continued slightly further into the good guy camp, but since she didn’t have any actual interaction with a main character, that certainly wasn’t particularly important either. At least it provided the slight bit of requisite eye candy for the episode. Otherwise, about the only action of note was all the different ways Hibiki used her newfound piston thingies to boost herself around as she sailed through the cityscape. Thrilling.
