Symphogear #06 — …And Now There Are Witches
February 10th, 2012
You’re starting to push it, Symphogear.
Impressions:
Fairly uneventful episode in both exposition and action until the last four minutes or so. I can’t say that I think Tsubasa’s turn to a nicer person was handled all that well. Yeah, I get that she’s spent the last few episodes dreaming about Kanade and coming to terms with her death, but waking up and going right to being all blushes and smiles to Hibiki… Well, it’s always better to be slightly too fast than too slow as long as you stay away from Guilty Crown’s level, which is less speed and more like teleporting from plot thread to plot thread at complete random, but that still should’ve been better. Or at the very least transitioned into some way besides a bad joke about Hibiki thinking that Tsubasa was dead/attacked because her room was empty and had her crap everywhere. Filthy girl.
There was a slight bit about Chris being some kind of war victim at the start, but the last bit was when they really started hitting the requisites for her changing sides, particularly Hibiki actually introducing herself. I think they may have stolen that exact speech from Nanoha. Hibiki’s own song is also quite a bit better than her Kanade-knockoff even if that ‘fight’ was pretty weak… he says fully knowing that it’ll dwarf anything Shana does this week and hoping this tempts fate enough to make him wrong. She’s also gone full-Subaru (or Alteisen if you prefer… SRW is about where my robotial knowledge starts and ends and I’m happy that way) with the rockets and boosted punch. I guess that’s meant to be her weapon then.
