Come on, Souma. Let’s see some real scheming here.

Impressions:

Beginning with Katanashi having a mental breakdown from Nazuna being as tall as him and begging Poplar to become his little sister until she accepts and he descends into a world of complete delusions was a good start. Parlaying that into Inami complaining that she doesn’t get enough attention from him… not a good continuation. At least The Claw had a brief cameo, but he seems to have shrunk by at least a foot and lost his handle. Poor Claw. Or maybe my memory’s just terrible. I remember him being much larger and sturdier, which is totally not Freudian at all. Still, nothing quite ruins a Poplar segment like injecting Inami.

Thankfully (sort of), the second half was all the Yamadas. Unfortunately, Yamada♀ wasn’t really up to any of her usual antics. She was pretty much nothing more than a prop for Souma to hide from Yamada♂. I still can’t say that I’m a big fan of Yamada♂ either, especially now that the pecking order between him, Inami, and Katanashi is a closed loop and he’s dimwitted enough to be distracted by jangling keys. Souma’s jedi mind tricks to keep Yamada♀ around have seen better days too. He could have at least shown an actual picture of Yamada dressed in one of her costumes from last season. It was still a better episode than most, but Yamada-heavy episodes should be held to a much higher standard.
