Invasion!? Squid Queen #14 — Corrupting the Innocent

Those poor unsuspecting lesbians.

Impressions:

Well, not a bad set of episodes I guess, although as the show frequently does, it spent far too much time meandering around with fairly dull and generic setup before getting to what should have been the meat and driving force and behind the humor of the segments. Then it makes one or two obvious jokes with it before ending without ever really doing anything other than actually introducing the scenario. Part one wasn’t so bad in that respect. Squid follows Takeru to school and accidentally chases the teacher off, leaving what is technically a tentacle monster in charge of a class of elementary students. Only in Japan.

The middle had the girls change Nagisa’s hair to make her a butch lesbian, so of course every Japanese girl in the area got moist in the bikini bottoms for her. Then Ayumi was randomly dumped on them, so they put her in a maid costume because that’s what you do in a Japanese restaurant. And with both the lesbians and the males occupied, which as you know, comprises 99% of Japan’s population, Squid was out of work until she decided to become a queen. Because queens are popular. And then the segment ended before it remembered to have a punchline to that. In the final part, it somehow segues from dieting to how Squid’s bracelets control her hair’s gravity. Even for this show, that’s stretching the bounds of sense. Like this show often struggles to, it spent , then after a grand total of three jokes involving her bracelets (too light, too heavy, carried away by a hawk), it was over. Focus here, Diomedea.

Sure, there was a lot of time spent per joke, but the jokes this episode tended to actually be somewhat amusing. That’s a big improvement over most comedy anime which are loaded with terribly unfunny gags.
