Idiots, Tests, and Summoned Beasts #19 — Suppressed Desires

This arc is still going on?

Impressions:

Maaaaan. This arc is still dragging on? It feels like someone at Silver Link was thinking the same as me last week in regards to ignored characters from season 1 since the episode felt the need to jam in Miharu and Kubo out of nowhere who then proceeded to come and go with less than an iota of sense. Unfortunately, this was structured pretty much identically to last week’s episode, only with the setup for the whole arc replaced by about 6 minutes of Aiko screwing with Yoshii by recording what he said and playing back his words in different ways. I’m still wondering how and why she became part of the core cast. She didn’t even show up at all in the OVAs.

They are getting closer to the summoning battles, but they’re still not actually showing them, instead opting to cut away every time. There’s none of the intelligent strategies from the first season in this stuff either. It’s all just boring old "occupy them while we run by," which lets them not animate anything but the summoning… most of which is recycled… and not need to show battles in any way. Otherwise, basically nothing else of note went on this week on either the comedy front or in resolving this lame arc. Yoshii waking up and contemplating kissing both Hideyoshi as well as Yuuji was also another convincing argument that he may not be oblivious to Minami and Himeji, he may just be light in the loafers.

8 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

    Disappointing Sequel huh Aroduc?

  • Leah-san says:

There was a Kubo this week, as I can see from the screenshots?
Did anything halfway amusing happen? Because I really liked that guy in the first season.

    • Aroduc says:

Not really. He preached about free love a bit, but not much else. Certainly nowhere near his previous levels of stalking.

  • Aex says:

This dumb arc isn’t over and the guys are still getting treated like crap. Great. At least they kinda deserve it this time, instead of that random torture-fest train-wreck from last episode.

  • Travis says:

Regarding Aiko – she was kind of an ensemble darkhorse among certain fans, and with spectacular awareness of the audience, she’s been crammed into stuff with any of the qualities that made her interesting in the first place removed. Now, that’s only my two cents but I reckon it’s a pretty good guess.

They really need to get back to the battles and actual jokes/character interactions that made this such an amusing show. I don’t know what the hell Silver Link is thinking – maybe they’ve been blowing all their quality animation time on Blood C++?

I’m still wondering how and why she became part of the core cast.

She’s Tsuchiya’s natural enemy, in pretty much every way.

  • TOP2NE1 says:

That’s it though. She was just shoehorned in to balance the cast (Tsuchiya).

There was no real set up or prior history to really justify her inclusion. Rather than ease her in, they kinda just chucked her at the main group for convenient pairings.
