Softenni #11 — Brain Damage

June 16th, 2011

I’m surprised that Asuna has enough of a brain to damage.

Impressions:

Maaaaan. Ending the show on a flashback without half the cast… with a conclusion we’re already well aware of… bad Xebec! No dessert for you tonight! Go back to your room and bring me more Hanako! I can’t say that I’m overly surprised by it, but it’s unfortunate that the generic "end-of-season-so-we-have-cram-some-drama-in-somewhere" appears to be chewing up an entire episode and a half. You can be funny and heartwarming, you know. It’s not an XOR gate. You don’t need to cut out half the characters and jokes just because you’ve decided to suddenly play melodramatic music and have characters look serious.

Anyway, lame second half with amnesia and extended extended flashback sequence aside, the first half was at least meant to be the show’s usual level of dumb entertainment, even if it was made up of about 15% pans and 10% cheesecake shots… of which Kotone was topless for probably at least 50%. I also have absolutely no idea where Misshi got those little binoculars but somehow, in a show about him ignoring a bunch of horny teenagers lusting after him, it managed to be the fruitiest thing he’s done so far. The important part (to use that phrase very liberally) was that Chitose was styling like a champ until she had to go out to sea to fight sharks. Words that I wish I could say about every show.

Preview:

Boo flashbacks. Yay cows.
