Sengoku Maidens #06 — Goddamned Cellphones

May 9th, 2011

I knew the cellphone was the culprit.

Impressions:

Let’s start with the most… uh…  striking part of the episode. Apparently Masamune actually really is her teacher from the present… who stumbled upon some future time traveller that turned into sparklies in her arms, leaving behind her future cellphone. She then used that future cell phone to do… something… which Hideyoshi stumbled into and got sent into the past. So… uh… yeah. Goddamned Japanese future cellphones are the culprit. Japanese future cellphones that somebody apparently tried to use magic on. I don’t even know where to begin.

The entire episode was basically flashbacks and you know how much I love those. Instead of current development, let’s have a little bubble episode where we fabricate some drama in about two minutes and tack it on to existing characters. Great! Not that they’re impossible to use effectively by any means, but Japanese writing seems obsessed with using them as an excuse to make sure the actual story moves as slowly as possible. *ahem* In any case, in no particular order, it was Mitsuhide meeting Nobunaga and ‘saving’ her from the peaceful life of administration. Nobunaga getting her pipe from Masahide her grandmother (I suppose the truth of him committing suicide would be a bit much for this story), and the Masamune flashback mentioned above. The remaining few minutes were just Hideyoshi and Nobunaga stumbling through traps in their hidden passage. At least nobody peed on anything this week.

Don’t give them any ideas. The last thing we need is them to try to reason out powering a microwave in the middle ages.
