Sengoku Maidens #05 — Rabbit Season
May 2nd, 2011
Duck season.
My patience with TWGOK has run out. It’s had four months to become something other than dull and has not succeeded, and a ‘fight’ against a blob that spends its entire time sitting around patiently waiting for everybody to work out their angst does not convince me that it’s improving.
Impressions:
…All of which would be more personally satisfying if this episode hadn’t been pretty terrible. Outside of some rather… interesting bloodlust on Hideyoshi’s part for hawks capturing animals (A BUNNY! GET IT!), not much was going on. And Hideyoshi hadn’t even realized that they were going to eat the rabbit after the hawk caught it… after watching it kill a pheasant no less.
It’s your standard 100 Tales of Horror episode, machinated by Ieyasu and her apparently dorky glasses ninja. That took a few credibility points away from her. Filling the role of the easily spooked is Mitsuhide, and filling the role of being a terrible storyteller is Nobunaga. And that’s about all that there was to the episode. Well, Hideyoshi saw Ieyasu scheming, but at her intelligence level, it’ll be another couple months before she figures out that Ieyasu is not in fact planning a surprise birthday party for them.
