[C] #04 — Clowns Eating Babies

May 5th, 2011

I knew it. It’s all a baby-eating scheme.

Impressions:

As usual, the parts focusing on Kimimaro and the real world kind of blew. Again, he and MSYU just get knocked around a bit before he finally gets around to attacking, whereupon he obliterates his professor and half a city block. That action scene was also chockfull of smash cuts to the prof’s pregnant wife visiting the class which I really didn’t like. It was jolting and didn’t really seem to serve much of a purpose. The rest of the first half was Kimi moping around with the prof about winning while the professor’s ‘future’, his children disappeared, but that was also a bit convoluted since the ghosts of said kids were wandering around the house even before his wife got a magical clown abortion and memory wipe. The professor also took all of it surprisingly well for somebody who just lost his children to some kid who has no idea what he’s doing.

Thankfully, Mikuni’s fight at the end was much better. Not that it was great, what with the time dilation at the end and reused footage, but I can never be mad at a show for carving somebody in half. Especially when it follows it up with the entirely unneeded "You have lost" message. Of course, like I said with episode 2, what injuries are actually serious and not still continues to seem completely arbitrary. It was also a welcome respite from all the random babble and angsting. We don’t even know this damn professor. Hell, I had to go look up who the heck it was at the end of the previous episode. I do not feel sorry for him just because you’re telling me that it’s sad. *ahem* Mikuni. Uh, there’s not much else to say. He beats old men with portals and his entire swarm of assets pokethings have a strange tendency to turn into Lovecraftian horrors. God only knows what Q turns into. I don’t think I want to know.

… What the heck is this show about?

    • Aroduc says:

Pandimensional clowns giving 3rd term abortions.

      Also, angst.

      • FlameStrike says:

Hmm since the children were already alive and out there, wouldn’t that make it a 4th term abortion… err I mean murder? Well, he the clown retcons the past so no one can call him out on it. But yeah, I was expecting a show about money and investment skills, but it turned out to be a shonen fight club with just money terms slapped on. Not what I was expecting, but oh well it works.

  • The Deviant says:

    Money..

  • Aex says:

Well it looks like Kimimaro might actually do something besides whine next time, so here’s hoping!

  • chad001 says:

Am I the only one who noticed that to get Kimimaro to DO ANYTHING, the main antagonists *cough Mikune cough* need to freakin HYPNOTIZE HIM? WHY? (Ref: the clown and the GIANT SWRILING HAND)
