The World Og Only Knows II #01 — The Dojo Act of 1987

April 11th, 2011

I’ve decided that God has no part in this show.

Impressions:

It’s amusing to me that as I was chatting about this episode with other people, they kept telling me how bad this arc was… Which means that compared to the other arcs… I don’t even want to know. The fact that the show even purports that there is some kind of confusion or interesting twist with Kasuga’s archetype is also slightly insulting. Every damn dojo in Japan has a girl who is trying hard to be strong/manly but secretly wants to be a sex object wearing the most impossible push-up bra imaginable seen as a girl. They passed it into law in 1987 as the Ranma 1/2 Act.

Production otherwise continues apace at about the same level as the first season, which is to say that it is still extremely uninspired and not all that good. Not to the level of some of the other exceedingly unambitious shows this season, but aggressively mediocre. To the show’s credit, either its music has gotten better or Merry has traumatized me to the point where I can no longer distinguish between good and bad music any longer. I suspect the latter because the music continues to be weird, just not quite as weird as I remember. There weren’t any needless insert songs to blatantly fill in time either… yet. Since there’s a date next episode, I can only imagine montages and inserts.

I really not certain if I have it in me to suffer through another season of this, but the rest of Monday (Sengoku Maidens and Qwaser) isn’t exactly promising either. What to do, what to do…

I don’t know why people didn’t like this Arc, I certainly enjoyed it in the manga… And the Omake was great XD

    Please keep bloging this show!

It’s odd, KamiNomi is one of my fave manga and the anime almost exactly followed the original source material, but I found myself dropping this mid-season 1.

The poor music direction and questionable character designs had something to do with it, but there’s something else that’s off/missing. I dunno.

I think it’s the part where you can’t speed through the setup arcs to the more interesting plot because each arc is 2+ episodes.

    • Ransom says:

If the passing was faster the anime would be better. Yeah having 2+ episodes per girl is the problem… No more than 2 episodes is the ideal formula.

  • Ryugan Ric says:

maybe the people dont like is the dojo girl sister arc

I actually really enjoyed this episode, but maybe I was just glad to see Elsee again.

Uh. What I see from these caps make me think that they could wrap up this capture as soon as next episode. And… considering all the other heroines scheduled for this season, that means… we should all prepare for lots of filler.

  • Forte says:

Unless they screw up Haqua we can say no bad things about this show etc

    :>

  • Pseud says:

The big problem with the first season was the terrible pacing, as a lot of the girls’ arcs ended up being stuffed with filler to pad them out by an extra episode.

Hopefully they’ve fixed that, but I have my doubts given that there are only four new girls in the titles.

I didnt have much of a problem with the first season at all, they are following the manga really closely, even the whole episode about the buggy unbeatable game was found in the manga. As for this episode, i enjoyed it quite a bit.
