Go get eaten by a CG dragon again, damn it.

Okay, I think we’re finally down to just one more OVA/DVD special for this week that hasn’t shown up yet (Symphonia).

Impressions:

You know… there are only three episodes for this scheduled. You’d think that would make it easy to watch because they’d have to keep things moving along at a relatively decent clip instead of wasting an entire episode on nothing but pointless exposition about The World and its history. You’d be completely wrong. Who cares about that crap? Is it important to the plot? Barely. Is it interesting? No. Does it build up the characters in any way? No. Is it going to be relevant to the conclusion? No. So knock it off, damn it. Go stick it in some moldy old fanbook instead.

Here’s the salient point. There’s an evil tree. It spits out giant CG beetles and evil versions of the people that it eats. This episode takes approximately 21 of its 24 minutes to get to this point, choosing to spend most of its time meandering around in the real world without any direction or purpose. I think my favorite little segment of wasted time is when the dynamic duo were researching people on their little list, then their phone suddenly rang. They wanted until it stopped, at which point their house phone rang, her brother answered it, and then told her the call was for her. Thanks. That was a tremendously worthy use of almost a minute of the episode.
